A Great Quality Item – Cheap Antivirus Software Critique

December 29, 2011

I love the fact that, every time I go to a website it tells me if it’s safe or not. It seems to be working just fine. Norton does everything to keep you protected, and this is a good product. It doesn’t slow down your computer like earlier versions did. Deleting all or no cookies is so early Microsoft IE, which they even fixed (well, to a point). I have used Norton security since the days of Peter Norton and DOS, although there were a few years when the product was so slow and bloated that I used other security products.

Over the years I’ve tried various Norton products and I have to say that it’s not always gone well. In fact, on every past occasion, I ended up uninstalling it. I feel like my computer is very safe with it. It’s very user friendly.

For those who have complained that installing Norton takes away your remaining subscription time for your current Norton product, I fully agree that is unacceptable. I can only assume that the new installation wipes the old installation and therefore resets the subscription to 365 days, regardless of whether you had days remaining on your existing Norton subscription.

I tested McAfee Internet Security, Webroot, AVG IS, and Kaspersky IS. All security systems are equally leveled in terms of level of protection as well as features and benefits. Even while it is scanning in the back ground, I still have not had any slowdown issues with my computer. Just as a side note, it was cheaper going to Amazon and purchasing the 1 user, 3 PC disc, than it was going to the Norton web site and renewing online.

These are very vanilla systems with almost nothing installed on them. The web sites that have crashed are not consistent and by no means dangerous sites. The purpose of this review is to warn everyone not to leave your computer on when you leave it if you have activated the Norton LOGIN feature. This Norton product works as advertised. I bought it from Amazon for half what Norton wants and considerably less than even Walmart. It’s low maintenance, does what it’s supposed to do, no problems. Since I have relied on Norton products for over 20 years, I have kept up a yearly subscription with their Anti-Virus programming. This particular version I have used for several years with no problems or invasions into my system.

I also recommend NIS over Norton 360, as the latter product is overkill for the average user, and can consume more memory/resources.

I then proceeded to reboot the computer, and run another full system scan (out of curiosity). The second scan took 5 hours and 4 minutes (580,631 total items scanned) with 43 risks detected and resolved!

If you check their website, there are others with the same problem. If the next phone call does not resolve the problem, I will take a loss and purchase another system.

The AutoLogin feature works great and makes my multi-page password list obsolete. WINDSCREEN REPLACEMENT COST.
